History of the AKC Museum of the Dog

Located in the heart of New York City, the AKC Museum of the Dog has a rich history dating back to 1982. Originally, the unique museum was located in The New York Life Building at 51 Madison Avenue as part of the American Kennel Association's (AKC) headquarters, but by 1987, the museum moved across state lines to Queeny Park, West St. Louis County, Missouri.

For 30 years, the AKC Museum of the Dog resided in Queeny Park, where visitors could come and explore the fascinating exhibits that celebrated all things canine. After a successful residence in Missouri, the museum was brought back home to NYC and reunited with the AKC headquarters at 101 Park Ave in the Kalikow building.

Today, the AKC Museum of the Dog in NYC features rotating canine-related exhibits that educate the public about the human-canine bond through its 1,700-piece collection and library filled with 4000-volumes.
